A Summary of our Management Plan

  A Summary of Our Management Plan                          15/3/07

My experiences over the years have led me to the conclusion that success with complicated and serious NeuroPsychoSocial Disorders and Substance Abuse/Addictions depends on 4 major activities, including:

1.       Firstly, careful, systematic, comprehensive searching for and diagnosis of all the NeuroPsychoSocial Disorders each patient has, by using:

                                 i.            carefully selected and structured questions, in a Comprehensive Computerised Checklist, with computerised analysis of the answers to the questions and a printout of the problems found, in descending order of significance together with

                                ii.            a Brain Electricity Assessment (a specific EEG), and

                              iii.            observation of the patient's Clinical Features, in a consultation about the findings of i and ii

This comprehensive diagnostic process enables the treatment to be strategically and accurately targeted, giving the quickest and best results possible, with the resources available. Early positive results encourage the patient, give them faith in the process and our team and the strength and motivation to carry through with the treatment.

2.       Secondly, accurately targeted and fine tuned Pharmacotherapy, to correct the patient's brain chemistry abnormalities, eg inadequate production of Serotonin, Noradrenalin and/or Dopamine. Accurately targeted fine tuned pharmacotherapy can give rapid relief and restoration of functionality, although it does not usually give a lasting cure.

3.       Thirdly Counselling to support patients emotionally, to supply relevant information, to deal with their problems and issues, and to help them to reconsider any counterproductive ideas, beliefs and values, which they may have developed during a traumatic childhood. New ideas and new ways of looking at things may change their lives forever.

4.       Fourthly the correction of the patient's brain electricity flows, through the use of NeuroTuning (EEG Biofeedback). Normal brain function depends on normal brain chemical and electrical flows. Correction of brain electricity is slower but gives longer lasting benefits than occurs with Pharmacotherapy, A combination of these two forms of therapy is ideal because it provides both early, rapid relief, and then lasting improvement.
In addition to these four major activities there are three other significant supporting services which we can only partially provide at The Family Neuro Health Centre at present. They are:

  1. Advice on good Nutrition through

i)        a diverse, balanced diet of fresh natural foods;

ii)      the exclusion of artificial colouring agents, taste additives and preservative agents, which do not occur in nature and which may aggravate the overactivity and irritability of certain areas of the brain,

iii)    where the diet has been very poor, the addition of nutritional supplements such as seafoods or fish oil capsules, multivitamins and minerals.

  1. Social Work support with regard to matters such as accommodation, Social Security payments, management of finances, Police and Court issues, Family Law Matters etc.
  2. Advice and support with regard to education, training and employment as employment is often an issue of major significance for this type of patient.

    Although we are able to give some basic support in these 3 areas, we look forward to having professionals in these fields working in our team in the future. We also very much look forward to having a Group Therapist working with us, as we believe that Group Therapy is the most effective and cost effective way of dealing with many issues.
